Bearing Isolators / Labyrinth Oil Seals
Model
OS/2000
bearing isolators are used for pumps, motors, gear boxes, and other rotating
equipment bearing frames and bearing housings.
Production and custom
sizes ranging from 0.625" (15 mm) to over 6.000" (152 mm) shaft
diameter.
Maintain oil level without loss.
Protects bearings from contamination like never before.
Eliminate shaft damage caused by "lip seals."
One piece "snap in" design will replace "lip seal"
over damaged shaft without modification to the pump.
Why Use Bearing
Isolators:
 |
Mean
Time Between Failure (MBTF) for the pump (or other rotating equipment)
is directly affected by the ability to maintain the integrity of the
bearing lubricant.> |
 |
Other
sealing methods, such as lip seals, have far too short a life span
and do not adequately prevent the infiltration of contaminants into
the bearing housing. Lubricant contamination is one of the leading
causes of premature bearing failure. |
 |
The
shaft assembly is a very expensive item to repair or replace after
damage by lip seals. |
 |
Bearing
isolators (also called labyrinth seals) are the best investment possible
to solve these age old problems. The payback is virtually instantaneous.
|
Where Can They Be Used:
 |
Bearing
isolators may be specified with new equipment (most higher quality
pumps now use them as standard anyway). |
 |
They
may be easily retrofitted to an existing pump, motor, or other rotating
equipment. Environamics Model OS/2000 Bearing Isolators are designed
to fit into the same spot as an existing lip seal without modifying
the equipment. |
 |
The
Model OS/2000 may even be used over an existing shaft that has already
been worn by a lip seal, thus saving the expense of repairing or replacing
the shaft. |
How Does It Work:
 |
The
stationary "labyrinth" keeps the lubricant in the housing
and prevents leakage. |
 |
The
rotating "labyrinth" keeps outside contaminants from getting
into the housing and contaminating the lubricant and causing premature
bearing failure. |
 |
Studies
have shown that as little as 0.002% moisture in oil will reduce bearing
life by 48%, and 6% moisture will cut bearing life by 83%. |
 |
Other
contaminants such as grit, dust, dirt, etc. will drastically reduce
bearing life. |
How
Is It Installed:
 |
The
Model OS/2000 is a one-piece cartridge design. The rotary and stationary
are "snapped together" at the factory so you do not need
to "set clearances" during installation. |
 |
Simply
slide it over the shaft and hand press it into the housing. It's ready
to run. |
 |
No
need to re-set the OS/2000 clearances after re-adjusting impeller
clearances, as you need to do with many other designs. |
What Are The Materials Of Construction:
 |
The
Model OS/2000 is manufactured from high quality carbon filled TFE,
which is a highly dimensionally stable material with unsurpassed corrosion
resistant properties. |
 |
It
can be applied in virtually any chemical environment, even where bronze,
brass and copper bearing materials are prohibited. |
 |
It
is highly beneficial where non-sparking characteristics are needed. |
 |
The
static o-ring seals are typically Viton(R) but can be any elastomer
material necessary to accommodate the specific environment. |
Summary Of Benefits:
 |
One
piece cartridge design for simple installation. |
 |
Self-aligning. |
 |
Retrofit
housings where lip seals were previously used. |
 |
Keeps
lubricant "in the housing" instead of "on
the floor." |
 |
Keeps
lubricant clean. Keeps contaminants and moisture out. |
 |
Non-contacting
design means no wear, no heat generation, and no power consumption. |
 |
Non-metallic
construction for superior chemical resistance. |
 |
Non-sparking
design. |
 |
Requires
no lubrication. |
